North Miami Beach Project Approved |
Despite that opponents hinted at a legal challenge that could hold up the project, the controversial high-rise project in North miami Beach has been approved.
In the 5-2 vote on the 468-unit condo project, the dissenters were Philippe Derose and John Patrick Julien. Both said they wanted the public to vote on high-rise redevelopment. Previous city approvals of the condo project were overturned by courts earlier this year after a challenge by the North miami Beach Citizens Coalition, which has also circulated petitions seeking restrictions on height and density in the city where the tallest building is 12 stories. An attorney for the coalition, W. Tucker Gibbs, argued that the project is still illegal because marina space should be subtracted before calculating the allowed density. Price, the developers' attorney, said all the legal problems were fixed with zoning amendments passed by council since the challenge. By M. Sese http://realestatepress.org |
