New Lexus Taxicabs Magnetize Desire |
Samuel Pekoh at all times turns his head, every time he pulls up to a red light.
Cab drivers usually open the windows of their Ford Crown Victorias, as they gaze resentfully at his Lexus taxicab. “Samantha”, just like there is a supermodel that entered unexpectedly at their presence. They usually whistle and say “Looking good” and give thumbs-ups as the pedestrian stop.
Mr. Pekoh, eight months ago was a taxi owner and driver which was formerly from Ghana. Cliffrord Hammon-Adler, his colleague, had a trip to a Lexus dealership on Lexington Avenue and came with a new pair of hybrid RX400hs which costs them $52,000 both. Mr. Hammon-Adler stated that "It's a beautiful drive." Mr. Pekoh stated that "I don't smoke, I don't drink, and when I drove for a company, I didn't like getting complaints about the smell of the car”." Now, the back seat of "Samantha," which he named after his daughter, smells like new leather. Alan Fromberg, a spokesman for the Taxi & Limousine Commission said that "This is the point at which people start seeing numbers.” Fifteen months ago, The Taxi & Limousine Commission agreed 10 hybrid-electric car models for use as taxicabs, although it’s only now that the new hybrid cars are catching up.
